im back...

hello friends...

i am back from a wonderfully exhausting week of service and fun. the idea is to gather up a group of people and head out to a more rural location to lend a hand for a week. the initiative is called STORMCO and stands for 'service to others really matters' (not sure about the co on the end). i went out as a trip leader and we took 24 high school aged kiddies along for the ride. We ran a holiday program for the local kids, scrubbed graffiti, painted, mulched, picked up rubbish and played some of the local boys in touch footy.

we also managed to have a whole lot of fun! it is so amazing to see these 14-16 year olds give up a week of their holidays, PAY to come along and work so hard! it was a week full of blessings!!

we put on an op shop formal for the kids who were on the trip which was a lot of fun! i'll post some pictures of that tomorrow... but until then - here are just a few of the wonderful week that was...

just a minute in... july

so i saw this rad idea over here and thought that i would give it a go for june... but as you can see i am a bit late so im trying to get in early for july :)

watching... not a lot to be honest. all the shows i love are on their super long break from t.v at the moment. however, my dad is visiting from china next weekend and he will being with him a plethora of dvds, including season five of criminal minds and the latest greys anatomy! cant wait!

eating... last night i ate turkish food! it is my firm belief that the best food in the world is from turkey. and their apple tea is super yummo!

reading... the short second life of bree tanner. it is taking me surprisingly long to get through. i plan to review it on this blog next week sometime... stay tuned!

listening... to my husband playing the playstation. grr. (i guess its a good trade off for spending so much time on the computer - haha)

wanting... a vintage bike and some brown vintage ankle boots... yes please!

excited about... starting work. surviving work. getting paid for work. woohoo!

as i was racing out of the op shop last week i had a quick look in the kids section (one of my secret guilty pleasures is buying vintage baby clothes - but more on this another day.. hehe) and to my delight i found this gem! i have been looking for something like this to wear under some special dresses to give them a bit more flair... it was tagged a girls size 10 but it sits on my waist perfectly and it has a tie up closure so is really more of a free size in my opinion!

beautiful... yes?

moral of the story - it pays to look in the childrens section of the op shop. even if you are 24 and childless! ha!

vintage sheets and other musings

i have finally got my act together and posted of my vintage sheet fat quarters (just in time) for this swap here. im really excited to get all the pretty fabrics back and expand my slow growing fabric collection :)

im away this coming week on a service camp with some of the teenagers from church. 25 teens in a rural town running a holiday program for the local kids and other service projects for the community! it is a lot of work but always one of my favourite weeks in the whole year!

this year i am also coordinating an op shop formal which im super excited about and will share lots of pictures when i return. if i get organised i might schedule some posts for while i am away but since i havent packed yet and we are leaving in about 2 hours it doesnt look too promising... eek!

at the op shops...

i have been doing some serious op shopping now i am on holidays! here are some of my favourite finds from the last week...

so much prettyness! im a bit shattered that the funky brown loafers are a little small... BOO! if only i wasnt such a big foot! but i guess that means that i will be putting them up on ebay in the next week or so...

p.p.s - i got a job last week!!! a real life teaching job... im totally excited and a little bit scared! but in just over a week i will be teaching my very own class - eek!!

slow and steady

here are some softies that i have been creating lately. i feel like i am getting better at crafting and i am super stoked to have found something that i love so much that also makes me feel so accomplished :)!

i am (very) slowly mastering the art of crochet and plan to tackle knitting next. i just wish i had more time to actually sit down and craft. it has been a bit lost lately amongst the thousand other things that seem to be taking priority...

i think the blue owl is my favourite - i love the fabric that i cut from a vintage pillowcase!

i popped the little bunny in the mail last week and it has arrived safely in the mailbox of this lovely lady!

p.s - im totally a twilight geek and im on the final countdown for my next bella and jacob fix! not long now!!
