slow and steady

here are some softies that i have been creating lately. i feel like i am getting better at crafting and i am super stoked to have found something that i love so much that also makes me feel so accomplished :)!

i am (very) slowly mastering the art of crochet and plan to tackle knitting next. i just wish i had more time to actually sit down and craft. it has been a bit lost lately amongst the thousand other things that seem to be taking priority...

i think the blue owl is my favourite - i love the fabric that i cut from a vintage pillowcase!

i popped the little bunny in the mail last week and it has arrived safely in the mailbox of this lovely lady!

p.s - im totally a twilight geek and im on the final countdown for my next bella and jacob fix! not long now!!

hitting the vintage badge jackpot!

we seem to have exceeded our internet download so the computer is being rather slow (it has taken me about 20 minutes to get this post up and running! haha)! i promise i'll post more when i am reconnected with the world wide web!

this is just a little preview of my op shop haul last week! i was at my last op shop of the day and looked down and there was a little wicker basket full of all these totally random and funky vintage badges - needless to say i cleaned them out! ha!

arent they beautiful?

DIY a book of happy

its that time of the semester where we are all a little bit crazy with end of semester exams. one of my friends has a LOT of really hard exams and has been really stressed over the last few weeks so i decided to make her a 'happy book'.

1. grab a bunch of graph paper and pages from vintage books
2. cut them into the same size
3. decide on a cover sheet (i used a A5 sheet of kraft cardboard)
4. fold everything in half
5. use a sewing machine to stitch down the middle fold of the pages
6. re-fold in half and now you have your book!! decorate as desired!

i'll post again tomorrow with a 'happy' list!

but i'll leave you with the Alice in Wonderland quote that i wrote on the last page (just in case you cant read it in the small picture)!

'well! I've often seen a cat without a grin; but a grin without a cat! its the most curious thing i ever saw in my life!' - Alice

have a happy weekend xx

lime and coconut muffins

im just going to put it out there - these are the yummiest muffins in the WORLD. well they are equal with some raspberry muffins that i made once and then lost the recipe so i have never been able to replicate them... GRR!

the feeble picture that i managed to take as i was racing out the door does not do them justice! but i thought i would share the love anyway :)

lime syrup coconut muffins

2 1/2 cups self-raising flour
1 cup dessicated coconut
1 cup caster sugar
1 tbsp finely grated lime rind
1 cup buttermilk
125g butter, melted
2 eggs

lime syrup
1/2 cup caster sugar
1/4 cup water
2 tsp finely grated lime rind
1/3 cup lime juice

preheat oven to mod hot (180). grease 12 hole muffin pan.
combine flour, coconut and sugar in a large bowl; stir in combined remaining ingredients.
spoon mixture into prepared pan, bake in mod hot oven about 20 mins.
transfer muffins to wire rack over tray; pour hot lime syrup over hot muffins.
drain syrup and pour over muffins again.

lime syrup - combine all ingredients in small saucepan; stir over heat, without boiling, until sugar dissolves. simmer, uncovered, without stirring for 2 minutes.

happy baking :)

thanks queen e...

here in australia we had the pleasure of celebrating the birth of the queen by having a day off... hip hip hooray! i packed my bags and headed down to melbourne for the annual girls weekend!! in high school there were six of us girls who were really close... we have managed to stay friends through two interstate moves, countless break-ups and break downs, six weddings and cancer. they are fantastic!

we headed out to rye for the weekend and spent our time eating chocolate, drinking coffee, watching the sixth season of sex and the city, reading magazines, going for morning nature walks and giggling!

p.s - check out that freaking enormous stingray (in the last pic) that was hiding under the pier... eek!

one of the things have missed the most while i have been on prac is the lack of time i have had to read. over the past month i have been collecting a pile of books to read once i am on holidays (in less than 2 weeks... EEK)! here is a sneak peek...

what are you reading now? any recommendations?

p.s - i did manage to sneak in some reading time a few weekends back and can COMPLETELY recommend this book by Suzanne Collins. do yourself a favour and read it!

i am selling some gorgeous vintage clothes on ebay... have a look here

isnt my sister a fabulous model!!

xx

life is good

i was lucky anough to be awarded by the lovely Allana over at High Maintenance Hippy! She also came up with some fabulous questions to answer that really got me thinking. it is really cool to learn more about the ladies behind the blogs!

1. Would you rather eat out or cook at home?
at the moment my husband and i are living at home with my mum (eek) and i am really looking forward to getting into our own place and having home cooked dinners out on the deck. or take away on our deck. anything in our own space really... ha!

2. What is your favourite quote?
'Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.'
-Albert Einstein

3. Name one thing you have purchased in the last week.
a beautiful black labrador puppy...

4. Do you have any animals?
YES!! just the one puppy for now. but i cant wait to move into our house and get some chickens... :)

5. Where would your ultimate holiday be?
for me, this is the hardest question to answer! i have so many places that are on my 'go to' list... my ultimate destination changes everyday. today it would probably be to tour around turkey and spend some time floating off the coast in one of these.

6. If you could ask one question of God what would it be?
i would just say THANKS!

7. Would you rather be warm or cold?
cold... for sure! im a melbourne girl at heart and really struggle with the hot, humid brisbane summers.

8. What is your all time favourite movie?
its got to be beauty and the beast... an oldie but a goodie!! im also loving adam and 500 days of summer at the moment.

9. Are you over answering questions yet? lol
nope :)

10. What would you say to teenage you?
-your bother and sister will end up being your best friends
-your mum is usually right
-Jesus is the answer to your questions
-please dont cut your hair short. you look like a boy (i could NOT pull this off)

great questions hey?? if you would like to play along feel free to answer them on your blog and share the link in the comments...

hope your monday is a happy one xx

meet Nell...

this is Nell. we picked her up yesterday. we love her so much already! she is such a good puppy - really playful but placid. here is a list of things i have learnt about nell in the last 24 hours

-she likes feet
-she will eat anything you put in front of her
-she cries if there arent any people around
-she is persistant. we have a golden retriever who did not want a bar of miss nell when she first arrived - but nell followed her around the yard all day and now they are friends!
-she is a lucky puppy cos she has a fabulous daddy! chris got up three times during the night to make sure that nell was okay and hadnt slipped through the pool fence!!

welcome to the team Nell! i cant wait for all the adventures we shall have!
