hanging with the obamas

my computer is being stinkified so i havent been able to blog. or be on facebook. or spend hours lost in the whimsical land of the world wide web...

but im back and its all systems go :)

i must confess that i do enjoy a bit of barack obama. so much so that i did in fact order in 'i heart obama' shirt which flew to me all the way from the us of a. so you can imagine my delight when i discovered that there is an official white house flickr photostream. its awesome that the president is so accessible and real... ahhh. almost makes me like america!

i especially love all the family pics!

they also have a totally rad vegie patch...

i think he would be fun to hang with!!

not quite a holiday

im trying to be a good little blogger and post on a semi-regular basis. can you tell? and in the spirit of being a good blogger i thought it was appropriate to let you all (my fine followers - all 9 of you. haha) know that i will not be posting for the next week or so as i am heading out bush with 20 totally rad teens from church in the spirit of service! the plan is to run kids clubs, eat cake, clean up australia one backyard at a time, freeze our buttocks off and just generally bring joy! will have updates upon my return. im also hoping to sneak out and check out the local op shops and uncover hidden treasures :).

its certainly not the greek islands or the south of france (one day!) but im dertermined to have fun and appreciate the little things...

on an unrelated note... i want hair like this :)

p.s- attempted my first sewing project on thursday. will post about progress when i get back.

stamp art is cool

when i was little, my nanna had a huge wooden box filled with trays and trays of rubber stamps. my little sister and i would spend hours creating stamp art.

in the latest frankie there was a small blurb about these love inspired rubber stamps that come in this super cute wooden box from notemaker.

i think they would be a gorgeous addition to envelopes and letters. what a lovely way to tell the people in your life that you love them :)

then i went searching on etsy and found these alphabet stamps from karaku..

gorgeous huh?

the expression of self

the number of fashion blogs out there in the world wide web is rather staggering. this causes me a great deal of procrastination and distraction much to my hisbands delight (he cannot understand why i am looking at other people lives instead of packing up my house into boxes... go figure). i have got to say that this french blog i stumbled across the other day is one of my favourites. i just love the simplicity yet creativity of these outfits. and i am having some serious hair envy!

in another plus - a lot of the clothing seems to come from chain stores which i appreciate as a broke and nearly homeless student!!
oh betty - you make me smile..

winter holidays..

okay so i use the term holidays VERY loosely as i am working nearly full time hours. BUT it does mean no more prac and no assignments for 6 weeks so im thankful for the small blessings. and it also means that i will have more time to tick things off my 'to do' list.
so far it looks like this.

*learn to sew
*watch french movies
*cook yummy vegetable soups
*sell clothes on ebay
*go walking in the bush
*watch the 'new moon' trailer over and over and over
*drink good coffee
*beat my little brother at wii
*plan our next holiday
*find more vintage shoes
*watch the first season of 'packed to the rafters'
*finish our wedding album

i'll keep you posted on any progress made to this list :)

p.s. what i would REALLY love to do is go to new zealand to test out my new snow suit but it doesnt look like that will be happening anytime soon - so its soup and sewing for now!!

an ode to winter.

i miss winter. the joys of living in queensland are somewhat overshadowed by the fact that this fine state refuses to acknowledge winter! its just hot.. or sweaty. winter just misses out. every year. i like my life to have seasons. i like knowing that there are some days in the year which are perfect for scarves and big coats and wheat bags full of joy and heat. queensland apparently disagrees with me on this and its only compromise is sending some acceptable winter weather at 4.30 in the morning. i refuse to acknowledge that this is as good as it gets - so until queensland can do better, i'll be the girl in the scarf and the sunnies wearing my swimmers under my tights and coat.

easter and the islands

for easter i went cruising. it was super rad.

This was our sweet ride :)

on the days we were released (yes, this word is appropriate!) onto dry land we got to laze on the beach and meet and greet the locals. i've got to say that i have never felt like more of a tourist as when 2000 plus cruisers are released onto semi-inhabited islands to overwhelm the locals and get suitably ripped off for our brazen ignorances. everybody wins.

so heres to being a tourist... sometimes i guess its okay.

the joy of the world wide web

i feel like i've discovered a whole new world in the past few weeks with the discovery of both blogging and etsy. new realms of pleasure and increasing amounts of quality time with any available computer have been revealed to me! on the flip side, my discoveries have not really come at the greatest of times as im frantically trying to write 5000 words of essays before next thursday. i fear that when i get my graded assignments back it will be hideously obvious that my priority during this time was indeed the world wide web and not the queensland education system!

here are some of my favourite etsy discoveries...

sarahseven <------------> paintedmetal

do you see why im so distracted? please hurry up and pay me kevin rudd so that when i have to drop out of uni at least i'll be well dressed :)

a lovely way to spend a sunday

i've just finished cleaning my semi-renovated unit (yay) and am about to start writing an assignment (boo..) i thought i'd spend a few moments inside my imagination (and flickr) and pretend that i have just had a wonderful, whimsical sunday doing things i love...

what a lovely way to spend a sunday xx

untapped brisbane

im not a huge fan of brisbane. i think its cos i've lived in melbourne and after melbourne anything is a bit disappointing. but on friday night brisbane really pulled through for me! a group of us went and frolicked by the river at new farm and ate some good food and chatted about some of the ugly names that parents give their children. like gregory. or maureen. we also chatted about awesome names that our future children might just be lucky enough to have. like willow. or india. (okay i confess, its just me that likes those names - but its my blog so i'll take as many liberties with the story as i please!!).

now this evening joy would not have taken place in melbourne because by about 4.30 in the afternoon its getting a bit too cold to leave the house without snow suiting up. one point to brisbane. however, melbourne has st kilda, bridge road, the vegie bar, a sweat free summer, my niece and the joys of winter. brisbane tends to skip winter.

i do love melbourne. but on friday night brisbane got my vote. love, laughter and innapropriate jokes. beat that melbourne.

i heart alice

i really do love Lewis Carrol's books about Alice. i am currently on a rampage through my many unpacked boxes (the joys of renovating) to find my copy of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' so i can re-read and re-love alice and her crew. here's some of my favourite alice so that you can love her too..

"Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said: "one can't believe impossible things." "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
(Through the Looking Glass, Chapter 5)

"Who are YOU?" said the Caterpillar.This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, "I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then."
(Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 5)

isn't she great??

on a semi-related note, Lisa Mitchell is totally rad. largely because she sings about alice but also because at one of her gigs last year she had her mic stand covered in fairy lights. check her out. i dont have a photo of her mic stand so i'll post a photo of her and a photo of fairy lights and hope you can imagine my joy with this concept...

the bright side??

today was one of those terrible days where i went to uni and acomplished nothing, got yelled at by an old man at the petrol station and was attacked by a rogue bird! so to counteract this im looking for the lovely things in my life...

* a date with my husband tonight

* polaroid photos

* friday night picnics

* no ironing

* air con in my car

* days off work

* living near my brother

* op shopping

* roadside fruit and vegie stalls

* fairy lights

* afternoon tea

* french films

* merlo coffee

* typewriters (well i dont actually have one of these in my life but i plan to one day and then it will be lovely:) )

*learning to play the guitar

* balloons

am feeling much better :) however, will still keep an eye out for dive bombing birds

love x

sharing is caring...

..and since there isnt enough caring in the world im going to start sharing. i think i like the idea of blogging and i hope that the practice of it doesnt let me down. im pretty great at getting excited about something new and getting over it just as quickly (as evidenced by my sewing drawer slash box slash pile slash corner of our lounge room).

so here's to sharing some of my life.. please note that this does not include sharing my husband or my new cohen et sabine dress :) !
